It’s sure to be an inspiring evening. Grab a glass of your favourite tipple and join us.
Who?
Oona King is VP of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Snap Inc. Previously she was Google’s Director of Diversity Strategy, and YouTube’s Director of Diverse Marketing, and before that Chief Diversity Officer for British Broadcaster Channel 4. Oona is a member of the House of Lords (a lifetime appointment as Baroness King in January 2011), and former Senior Policy Advisor & speechwriter to the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.
As Shadow Minister for Equalities, in 2016 Oona introduced the amendment to Parliament that requires all companies in the UK with over 250 employees to publish their gender pay gap. Oona’s law has had far-reaching consequences in the UK, Silicon Valley and beyond.
In 1997 Oona became an MP at 29 – the second woman of colour, and 200th woman of any colour elected to the British Parliament. Oona founded the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Genocide Prevention and received a commendation from the UN Security Council’s Expert Panel for her group’s work on peacekeeping. In her role at Channel 4, Oona designed and introduced a new diversity monitoring tool. Her idea makes British broadcasting the first in the world to have an industry-wide diversity standard.
