Luba Elliott, Curator and Researcher
Luba Elliott is a curator and researcher specialising in artificial intelligence in the creative industries. She is currently working to educate and engage the broader public about the latest developments in creative AI through monthly meetups, talks and tech demonstrations. This year, she is curating Impakt Festival, a 5-day event with exhibitions, film screenings, and lectures around the theme of Post-Truth and AI. Previously, she has organised workshops and exhibitions on art and AI for The Photographers’ Gallery, Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence and Google. Luba is also a member of the AI Think Tank Council of the British Interactive Media Association. Prior to that, she worked in start-ups, including the art collector database Larry’s List. She holds a degree in Modern Languages from Cambridge University and a Certificate in Design Thinking from Hasso-Plattner Institute in Potsdam. Website: www.elluba.com
Georgia Ward Dyer is an artist, speaker, writer and researcher from London, currently working at innovation foundation Nesta in Futures & Explorations. She has a background in Philosophy (University of Cambridge), and developed a creative research practice while completing her Information Experience Design MA at the Royal College of Art and previously University of the Arts London. Most recently her research has addressed the intersections of philosophy and artificial intelligence, and the interrelations between machine learning and archives. Through her creative work she has established cross-disciplinary collaborations with scientists from diverse, cutting-edge fields such as epigenetics, quantum computing and machine learning, exhibiting work across the world including at the Wellcome Collection and the V&A.
Oded Ben-Tal, Senior Lecturer, Kingston University
Oded Ben-Tal is a composer and researcher working at the intersection of music, computing, and cognition. His composition include both acoustic pieces, works combining instruments with electronics and multimedia work. Since 2016 he is working on a multidisplinary research project applying state of the art machine learning to music composition. He is a senior lecturer at the Performing Arts Department, Kingston University
Marco Marchesi, Head of Technology at Happy Finish
Marco Marchesi is Head of Technology at Happy Finish. After an award winning career in Media Production and Visual Effects he focused his attention on the engineering side of the creative industry. After his research work in Human-Computer Interfaces and Computer Vision at the University of Bologna in Italy and in Conversational Design and Machine Learning at Apple Siri in California, he pursued a PhD in advanced technologies for Mixed Reality. In 2016 he joined Happy Finish to lead the development team responsible for the creation of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence applications.
Currently Marco is focused on implementing Deep Learning techniques into the company creative pipelines and in mixing realtime AR and AI on mobile devices.
Hooman Shayani is a Senior Principal Research Scientist at Autodesk Research
Hooman Shayani is a Senior Principal Research Scientist at Autodesk Research. He is part of the Design Research team in the office of the CTO, working on Dreamcatcher project, among other projects. His research at Autodesk has been focused on Generative Design in different industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, tooling, and sports. Hooman joined Autodesk in 2014 through acquisition of Within Technologies. Prior to Autodesk, he was co-founder and Head of R&D at Within Technologies. He has co-founded other companies in the areas of Additive Manufacturing, product customization, and AI. During his career, he has been a university lecturer, managing director, robot/embedded system designer, software developer, and 3D animator. He has a BSc. in Computer Science from BIHE, a MSc. in Intelligent Systems from UCL, and a PhD in AI from UCL. He has published papers on evolutionary algorithms, bio-inspired computing, evolvable hardware, and patents on Additive Manufacturing and Generative Design.
