Esther Carder, Media Partner at Moore Kingston Smith
Esther Carder’s clients appreciate her professional, approachable manner and her ability to deliver business advice in an unambiguous and easy-to-understand way. This, together with her depth of knowledge of the media sector, means that she is able to add commerciality to the technical advice that she gives.
Esther has some 26 years’ experience working with owner-managed businesses and has been a partner specialising in the media and marketing services industry for 19 years, an area she is passionate about. She describes the sector as not only interesting but motivating because of the energetic and entrepreneurial people it attracts. In her own words: ‘If there can be a sexy area of accountancy, then media is it!’
Esther has responsibility for a portfolio of clients in the marketing services sector. As well as advising on routine areas of compliance such as audit and tax, she also advises regularly on specialist areas, including employee incentive schemes, EOTs, strategic advisory services and valuations. She also works closely alongside M&A transactions, advising on pre-sale grooming and tax planning, company restructures and due diligence.
Esther is Treasurer of BIMA. She also speaks regularly at seminars, is widely quoted in trade press and is involved with the scrutiny of the submissions to the annual PR Week Top 150 and Design Week Top 100.
Dan Leaman, Corporate Finance Director at Moore Kingston Smith
Dan acts as lead adviser to a range of clients on strategy, acquisitions, disposals, restructuring, turnarounds and management buyouts as well as the fundraising of both debt and equity. He has over ten years’ experience in mergers and acquisitions, and eight years under his belt as both Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of marketing services and manufacturing SMEs, both privately owned and PE-backed.
He always starts by developing a thorough understanding of his clients’ aspirations and their business’ culture, value proposition, client base, USPs, operations and people. From this, he develops strategies to work with his clients collaboratively to deliver their goals and maximise shareholder returns.
Dan’s first-hand sector knowledge allows him to advise clients from a unique perspective. He knows what it is like to run an agency and is well-equipped to predict what buyers will consider when making an acquisition and the issues that are important for a successful integration post-transaction.
Dan also has an extensive background in public company work for AIM-listed clients. He has acted as reporting accountant for initial public offerings, reverse takeovers and significant acquisitions. Additionally, he is well-versed in preparing pre-lending reviews for funders and due diligence for buyers. This is complemented by his expansive involvement across other entrepreneurial businesses including food, education, professional services and facility management transactions.
Dan is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales.
