BIMA South | World Social Media Day

Posted by BIMA

To celebrate World Social Media day this year Whitespace will be hosting us for a #BIMAbreakfast event in their fantastic office space in the West End – we’ll have some mini case studies/presentations which will be followed by an interactive panel session where you’ll have plenty of opportunity to pick the brains of our expert panel.

Meet our speakers:

Jordan Laird, Creative Director at Studio Something

Jordan Laird is one half of the creative duo that founded Studio Something, the Bafta-nominated, space-conquering, positive-trolling creative studio based in Edinburgh and London. As a company they set out to simply ‘make something people genuinely like’ they have ‘made things’ for Innis & Gunn, Red Bull, Coca-Cola, Channel 4, Tennent’s Lager and Universal Music amongst many others.  Their work has made headlines from Russia to Brazil and most places in between.

He will be talking about the power of Facebook Live and how Studio Something have utilised this growing medium for their clients, what works on Facebook Live, why ‘longer is better’ and what on earth they mean when they talk about ‘water cooler social’.

Jen Rankine, Social Media & Community Manager at Skyscanner

Jen is a social media human who’s been dabbling around on Internet communities for far too long (according to her mother) but switched it into a career in 2011.

Starting off in retail, she grew the brand’s communities on existing platforms, introduced them to new ones and opened the customer service team up to social media before deciding to explore the world of agencies. There she worked on a collection of FMCG and financial brands.

In 2015, Jen joined Skyscanner to look after the UK’s social media channels and is now responsible for global communications and freelancer engagement.

Fun facts: Voted in as one of the 30 under 30 Woman to Watch in Digital and one of the Top 50 people working in Social Media by The Drum magazine. Went viral.

Beth Bolt, Senior Digital Marketer at Whitespace

She may come from the land down under, but that doesn’t make her marketing background under-whelming. An experienced marketer who’s handled her fair share of issues online, Beth will be recounting some of her key learnings from over the years; this includes how she amplified a weekend-long State celebration on social, the trials of live tweeting award shows and how her and her team helped combat fence-jumpers at the Arcadia festival.

Emily Puddephatt, Senior Strategist at Stripe Communications

Emily is Stripe’s resident Swiss army knife of strategy. She specialises in social, but as brands’ briefs and ambitions have become ever more integrated she’s developed a keen interest in the places where the lines between disciplines blur. With a strong commercial perspective on the value of social and its measurement, she’s worked with brands in a hugely diverse range of sectors, from food, travel and retail to investments, joinery and even a mint (coins, not sweets).

Emily will be looking at how different approaches to paid social can help brands balance performance with innovation and amp up their ambitions and success as a result.

Lesley McIvor, Social Media Manager at Visit Scotland

Lesley will be talking about user generated content and how it has helped our channels grow. UGC is an important part of Visit Scotland’s social media strategy. She’s worked at VisitScotland for 8 years and been involved in the social media for almost 5 years.
