We’re half way through bootcamp and this week we got hands on!
Session 3 #DreamAndDo was essentially about getting hands on with future technology. We collaborated with Draw & Code and LJMU Fablab by getting as much equipment together as possible for the girls to play with including VR head sets, 3D printers, face scanners and Laser cutters. Phil, Marketing manager at Draw & Code introduced the session by explaining that “3D will be the defining feature of our digital lives”. He spoke about roles within 3D such as 3D designers and developers and talked about their companies extraordinary knowledge around VR and game making.
Next Lol and Mark from LJMU Fablab began the play session. The group was split into two, whilst some girls put on a head set and walked around a virtual maze, some delved into a laser cutting activity where you created your own logo with the machinery. The girls were also given the chance to have their heads scanned and 3D printed which they were all extremely excited about!
This session has definitely been the most exciting so far. It was great to see the girls, now that they are more settled forming relationships and getting stuck into the world of tech. The girls are becoming more confident and are asking all of our industry partners questions before the presentations have even finished which is incredible!
Annabelle, who now wants to study at the studio schools said that it was her favourite session but she cannot wait to get coding next week – and that’s what session 4 is. We will be introducing the girls to coding, some of which have done it briefly before but we’re excited to see how they will get on.
